Two Illiger's Macaws take flight from their sentinel Caraibeira tree (Tabebuia caraiba) overlooking Melancia Creek.

This flock of Illiger's range is sympatric with the historical habitat of the Spix's Macaw and may someday act as a

surrogate flock for the reintroduction of the Spix's Macaw into the Riacho Melancia Creek watershed.
