Bahama/Cuban Amazon 1

A female Bahama Amazon (Victoria) in her nest in the ground hole.

Victoria and her chicks were lost August 3, 2004 due to predation by introduced feral cats

within the Abaco National Park.

From July 10 to August 10, 2004,  21 (27%) of the 77  known nests of the Abaco Bahama Parrot

were predated by feral cats. A catastrophic loss.

The Bahama Amazon is the only parrot in the New World (Western Hemisphere)

that nest in ground holes.

The Bahama Amazon nests in naturally occurring limestone sinkholes.

(The Bahamian Amazon is a subspecies of the Cuban Amazon)
